Chivas Brothers Launches The Vault, an Exclusive Whisky Tasting

The Vault whisky cellar

Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky company behind Ballantine's, Royal Salute and, one of our favorites, Longmorn, has launched an ultra-exclusive whisky tour that allows you to buy one of its most precious casks.

Fittingly named The Vault, the new experience becomes the latest cask ownership program aimed at private clients. Those with the cash and the contacts take a bespoke tour around Strathisla, the oldest operating distillery in Speyside. First established in 1786, Strathisla offers a tantalizing glimpse into the origins of the Scotch whisky industry. The distillery's archivist will be there to help you unlock its secrets.

But you'll be here for a reason. And that reason won't be looking at grainy photographs and old ledgers. The fun begins in The Vault's impressive whisky library, where Chivas Brothers has curated 240 exclusive samples including newmake spirits, ultra-aged whiskies and one-off oddities for you to try.

You won't be trying them all. By this point, Chivas Brothers' whisky experts will have analyzed your preferences and curated a selection based on your favorite drams. That information will follow you into The Vault, where you'll see 14 casks hand-selected by two industry veterans, Sandy Hyslop and Kevin Balmforth.

Following its first-ever watchmaking competition earlier this year, Louis Vuitton is continuing to make waves in the world of haute horology with the launch of a unique collection of luxury watches. Below, we take a deep dive into the French fashion house’s intricate new creations spanning everything from a timepiece designed in collaboration with revered architect Frank Gehry to a trio of Escale watches inspired by antiques owned by Gaston-Louis Vuitton (a third-generation member of the Maison’s founding family).

The new assortment of Louis Vuitton watches kicks off with three limited-edition Escale Cabinet of Wonders models. Each timepiece draws inspiration from the personal collection of fine and rare objects owned by Gaston-Louis Vuitton who led the company from 1907 through 1970.

Our favorite is the blue-and-silver version: a white gold case is decorated with two carp that have been painstakingly sculpted, engraved and painted by hand (the watch took more than 150 hours to complete). The fish are surrounded by amber-colored pebbles of smoky quartz and tiny chunks of rock crystal.

Louis Vuitton has also released a green-and-blue hued version depicting a serpent in a verdant bamboo forest; and a rose gold model that features a striking dragon with a single glittering eye crafted from a carbochon-cut ruby.

Costa Rica truly is a natural paradise, with some of the world’s best surfing spots, pristine beaches and protected national parks – which house about 5% of the world's biodiversity. But for those who like a bit more glam with their outdoor adventure, the Peninsula Papagayo on the country’s northern Pacific Coast brings untarnished nature in harmony with luxury resorts.

While none perhaps do this better than the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, those who wish to put down more permanent roots in this exclusive development should look to their residences. Casa Las Olas, in particular, is the most exclusive in the area.

On a private lookout over Prieta Bay, you'll find the sprawling oasis that is Casa Las Olas - a six-bedroom residence that is fully managed and serviced by Four Seasons. Sat on a 1.5-acre private estate, here the only disturbance you’ll get from the neighbors will be those swinging in the trees next door. Offering a huge floorplan of over 18,000 sq ft of luxe accommodations and amenities, this six-bedroom, nine-bathroom property is the pinnacle of outdoor/indoor living.

Designed by Peruvian-Costa Rican architect Jaime Rouillon, Casa Las Olas is a seamless fusion of local, traditional design with post-modern aesthetics, which together work to amplify the natural beauty of the surrounding tropical landscape. This ethos is perhaps best shown in the property’s outdoor space, where looking out against the uninterrupted and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, you’ll find the spectacular 100 ft swimming pool.

Leica SL3 Camera Revealed: The Ultimate Professional Tool

Leica SL3

Describing a camera produced by Leica as “Pro” is somewhat redundant. All Leica products are used regularly by both professionals and enthusiasts. This has been the case since the Leica 1(A) was first released in 1925. Yet for the Leica SL3 — the company’s latest offering — the concept of a device aimed at professionals particularly resonates.

The SL-System was first introduced in 2015, and since then has been regarded as the Leica Camera most suited to the professional environment, thanks in part to its ruggedness, workhorse-like nature and video capabilities which were added with the SL2-S.

Unlike the Leica M series — a rangefinder loved for its small size, simplicity and focus on the essence of photography — the Leica SL features autofocus performing better in environments where speed is key, think sport, wildlife and reportage.

The new SL3 marks a significant step in Leica’s journey. Now all three mainline cameras, the M, Q, and SL series feature a similar BSI CMOS full-frame sensor with triple-resolution technology. Additionally, the user interface is essentially the same across all three. All this means that for those lucky enough to own more than one Leica, switching between them is a breeze.
